Over the Hills & Beyond the Imagination

Imagine yourself immersed in the staggering beauty of the Black Hills of Western South Dakota! Imagine you're gliding over the rugged landscape aboard a vintage steam train, like those that helped settle the Great American West!

Located near Mt. Rushmore National Memorial and Crazy Horse Memorial, the 1880 Train offers a western experience like no other. Feel the power. Hear the bellow of the engine and the whine of the whistle as it winds its way through the scenic hills between Hill City and Keystone... and back again.

Start from Either Location!

1880 Train runs between Hill City and Keystone, with train depots in both towns. Each one-way trip provides two hours of exhilarating sightseeing. Both stations boast fully equipped gift shops loaded with unique mementos, souvenirs, and South Dakotan artifacts. The 1880 Train Company actively restores old, rundown train cars into the majestic masterpieces they once were.
