The central region of South Dakota provides an abundance of camping opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast.  Encompassing the mighty Missouri River, the central region of South Dakota has much to offer campers interested in seeing the heart of South Dakota.  No matter what your preferred camping style—peaceful solitude, social interaction, or family-friendly activities—you’re sure to find just the right facility.

Aberdeen Camping

  • Wylie Park: Just a mile from the city of Aberdeen in North Central South Dakota, Wylie Park provides 210 acres of outdoor recreational and scenic opportunities. 92 fully equipped campsites and seven camping cabins are available with a variety of amenities.

Chamberlain Camping

  • American Creek Campground: Located in South Central South Dakota on the east side of the Missouri River at Chamberlain, this peaceful campground offers 30 tent sites, four private cabins, full water and electrical hook-ups, and picnic shelters.
  • Cedar Shore Resort: Exceptional river views and abundant wildlife make this deluxe resort a popular choice for campers who want to combine natural wonders with modern conveniences. All campers are welcome to utilize the many amenities the resort has to offer.
  • Keiner’s Kampground: Located in the city of Chamberlain, this campground is part of the Elm Creek Recreation Area along the Missouri River. Centrally located along I-90, it’s designed for self-contained RV units.
  • Al's Oasis Campground: This facility lives up to its name with scenic river views, ample water recreation, nearby convenience shopping, a heated swimming pool, and full-service restrooms and laundry.

Gettysburg Camping

  • Bob’s Resort: In Gettysburg, South Dakota, this campground resort is located along the picturesque Lake Oahe. Their luxury camping accommodations include full electrical hookups, new cabins, and a mobile home park.

Midland Camping

  • Belvedere KOA: With a heated pool, playgrounds, pull-thru RV sites, and arcade, the easily accessible Belvedere KOA is a camping family’s dream, and is located just ½-mile off of I-90.
Pierre Camping
  • Farm Island Recreation Area: Located just east of Pierre, this scenic recreation area includes 90 campsites and two camping cabins. The main campground is equipped with showers and a youth group camping area.
  • Oahe Downstream Recreation Area: Three separate campgrounds offer campers an abundance of outdoor recreational activities. Five camping cabins are also available. Comfort stations include showers and playgrounds.
  • Okobojo Point Recreation Area: With its picturesque prairies and rolling hills, this scenic location includes ample campsites along the Missouri River, ideal for those who enjoy more secluded wilderness areas.
  • West Bend Recreation Area: Camp along the Lewis and Clark Trail on shady, well-appointed campsites.

Presho Camping

  • New Frontier Campground & RV Park: Inspired by the pioneers and cowboys who originally settled central South Dakota, this down-home, ranch-style park offers hospitality and amenities you won’t find at ordinary commercial campgrounds.
