Family programs this weekend at state parks

The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks recently sent out a news release with information detailing family programs happening Saturday, July 11, at some state parks and recreation areas.

I don’t have anything to add, other than my encouragement to get out as a family and enjoy some time outdoors. Here’s the list of events:

  • "Park After Dark" Walk in the Park, Farm Island Recreation Area, 9:30 p.m. Participants should bring their flashlights for a walk on the island to see the animals that come out after dark. Remember to wear appropriate hiking attire and bug spray! Info: (605) 773-2885
  • Yankton Disc Golf Trilogy, Lewis and Clark Recreation Area, Registration starts at 9 a.m., tee off at 9:30 a.m. The 3rd annual tournament will start at Memorial Park in Yankton, then go to the Corps of Engineers disc golf course, and end at Gavins disc golf course at Lewis and Clark Recreation Area. There will be both men’s and women’s divisions and prizes for the top three winners in each division. Info: (605) 668-2985

To keep you trekking when your batteries die, we’ll talk about old-time maps and compasses too! Come prepared to cover some new territory. Walking shoes, sun block and water are strongly advised.
