Great Bear

When the weather turns cold, the fun heats up in South Dakota, and Great Bear is the destination for winter fun in the eastern part of the state.  With downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, tubing and show-shoeing, there’s something for everyone.

Great Bear has 14 downhill trails, a custom-built beginner area featuring a conveyor lift, and for the adventuresome there is a full snowboard terrain park with a quad chairlift and a handle tow.  At Great Bear, you’ll never have to worry about snow either since they have snowmaking and grooming equipment that keeps the slopes ready all winter long.

If tubing is more your speed, the Kirby Family Tubing Park will be your destination.  With four lanes of tubing fun, you’ll spend the day flying down the hills atop a tube.  You won’t have to worry about climbing back up the hill either, as Great Bear has the only surface-lift system in the eastern half of the state.

If you happen to be at Great Bear in March, near the end of the season, you won’t want to miss Snirt Fest.  It’s Great Bear’s year end closing weekend celebration, and includes a weekend full of celebratory events.
