South Dakota’s Regions

Choosing a South Dakota region to live in is no easy task. The western region is an outdoor lover’s paradise, featuring the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, and creeks and rivers galore.  Wildlife is abundant, and the picturesque Badlands feature rocky outcroppings found nowhere else.  Rapid City, the largest city in the western region, provides excellent job opportunities, as well as healthcare, education, and other community features.

The central region of South Dakota is a playground for hunters, and those seeking the quiet of rural life.  Don’t be fooled though, it’s also home to the state capitol in Pierre.  If you choose to relocate to the central region, you’ll also be close to many of South Dakota’s Native American reservations, affording you a change to explore Native American cultures and traditions.

South Dakota’s eastern region is home to the state’s largest city, Sioux Falls, although there are also many rural areas if you prefer peace and quiet.  The eastern region is South Dakota’s mecca of culture, with a symphony, performing arts center, and many museums and galleries.  In addition to entertainment and cultural options, Sioux Falls is also home to education and civic opportunities, and 2 of South Dakota’s largest health systems.
