Visitors to Snake Creek can enjoy boating, fishing, and camping. Snake Creek each have electrical and non-electrical campsites, boat launching ramps, and fish cleaning stations.
In addition to fishing and boating, visitors can learn about the rich history of the site. In 1804 and 1806, the Lewis and Clark expedition traveled through the area. The youngest member of the Lewis and Clark expedition, Private George Shannon, got lost during the expedition for two weeks while searching for stray horses. An interpretive sign near Snake Creek Recreation Area tells Private Shannon’s story, and of the expedition’s search for Shannon.
While in the area, tourists are sure to enjoy nearby Fort Randall Dam, home to one of America’s largest concentrations of bald and gold eagles.
