South Dakota State Fair under way

The 2009 South Dakota State Fair runs Sept. 3-7. (photo by South Dakota Tourism)The 2009 South Dakota State Fair in Huron begins today. I have a soft spot in my heart for the fair, because I used to camp there for the entire week with my family when I was a kid. We were in 4-H, and we had exhibits at the fair ranging from cakes to hogs. Mostly, though, we looked forward to the carnival rides, entertainment, food and people-watching.

This year’s fair continues through Monday. There’s so much to do at the fair that it’s difficult to suggest anything in particular that you should see. The best advice is to show up and start wandering, and you’ll stumble into something fun. For some ideas, visit the fair’s "Grounds/Strolling" Web page.
