Waterfowl Hunting


The South Dakota waterfowl hunting has been the best it has been in decades. Whether you are searching for ducks or geese you will not find a shortage in the eastern part of the state.

Duck Hunting

Ducks are a widely popular prey among South Dakotan hunters, with more than 15 million of them migrating through the state each year. The primary duck-hunting territory is in the heart of the Central Flyway. Commonly hunted species include mallards, teal, pintails, and gadwall. The types and amounts of ducks vary by region.

Goose Hunting

The state, along with many parts in North America, have seen an over-population of geese in the area. Due to this GFAP has offered liberal hunting seasons to help regulate the goose population in the area. Because of this it has offered prime goose hunting opportunities all throughout the state.

Swan Hunting

More specifically the "Tundra" Swan, South Dakota offers the central migration route for these birds. The state offers limited licenses which makes it a unique hunting experience.

Crane Hunting

Like the swan, the Sandhill Crane is offered as another hunting option on a limited basis. The crane migrate through the South Dakota area in the spring and fall.
