History

Bringing history to modern-day life, Hansen Wheel and Wagon Shop is a family owned and operated carriage and wagon manufacturer established in Letcher in 1978. For twenty-five years, their goal has been to create the most historically accurate horse-drawn vehicles anywhere this side of the 1800’s. This gives an authentic taste of the Dakotas as the carriages are part of parades and various local events.

Recreation / Community Events

Rossy Park is a popular attraction located next to Letcher Lake. A drive north of Main Street will be a volleyball net, basketball court and horseshoe pit for your enjoyment.  There’s lots of shade, plus benches and a picnic shelter. Recent additions include a grill, fire pit, playground equipment and bathrooms. Letcher Lake is just feet away.

Memorial Park is right next to the library on Main Street and was dedicated during the 125th celebration in 2007. Since its establishment, a clock in memory of Bill Jamison was donated, as well as a park bench in memory of Catherine Rudd.  A beautiful brick area has been built at the base of the clock and hopefully someday will expand to a path to the bench area.

The Letcher Community Center is located at 104 E. Main Street. It is utilized by many local organizations on a regular basis, including the Letcher Town Board, Tormey-Stach Legion and Auxiliary, Letcher Volunteer Fire Department, and the Letcher Senior Citizens for card games. The building may also be rented by private parties for any occasion. It has a kitchen, tables, chairs and extra refrigeration for large gatherings.
