Milbank has an active community that is growing and changing while still keeping their traditions alive. Milbank is a town located in northeast South Dakota with a population of 3,640 and is located in Grant County which has a population of 7,847. Milbank is located 10 miles from Big Stone Lake and is surrounded by farmland.

History

The community was named for Jeremiah Milbank, railroad director. Incorporated in 1894, the city is governed by a Mayor-Council form of government. Mayor and Councilmen are elected to a two year term.

Recreation / Community Events

Farley Fest is hosted by the community the weekend prior to the 4th of July. The weekend starts with a chili cook off and burn out competition followed at dusk with fireworks in Lake Farley Park. There are also vendors for Arts In The Park on Friday evening. Saturday starts with our 5K run/2mile fun walk, Arts In The Park at the Courthouse Park, and Q-Fest at Farley. The main event is typically a band and street dance. Sunday’s big event is the Gesswein Car Show with live entertainment. Arts In The Park continues in Courthouse Park and Farley Fest ends its’ weekend with a Parade. January brings Milbank’s Farm and Home Show. It is held the 3rd weekend of the month in the National Guard Armory at the High School.
